How to Reset DIR-655 Default Settings and Password?

Generally, routers from different brands or manufacturers don't have any default username. But DLink routers have a username. So, the D-Link DIR-655 has a default username which is set to admin. While the default IP address or URL to access the web interface of DLink router is 192.168.0.1. This DIR-655 default IP address will take you to the router administration page where you have to login. By default, the username is admin, but has no password. Steps to Reset DIR-655 Default Settings and Password

Step 1: Locate the reset button at the back of the router, housed with multiple cables. Turn the router around so you can see the small hole that has the Reset button inside.

Step 2: Use a small and pointy object like paperclip so as to reach into that small hole. Press and hold the Reset button continuously for about 10 seconds.

Step 3: Release the Reset button so that the router starts to reboot. After 30 seconds of rebooting, it will automatically start up.

Step 4: Disconnect the power cable for a few seconds once the DIR-655 is powered on. Plug it back again and wait for another 30 seconds to power it again.

Step 5: Visit the default router URL http://192.168.0.1 and access the router's login page. Enter the default username and password.

Step 6: Secure the router with a new password so that no unauthorized person is able to login with default password. Make a note of new password somewhere you don't forget.

Step 7: Configure the network settings that you want to set before the router was reset.

Resetting the router to factory defaults cleans every custom setting that you have made. To save this configuration information in future, back up the router's configuration from the TOOLS > SYSTEM menu using the Save Configuration button. Next time, you reset the router, restore these settings again with the Restore Configuration from File button.

If You Can't Access the DIR-655 Router

As you can change the DIR-655 default settings and Password, likewise, the IP address of 192.168.0.1 can be customized too. In case you are unable to access router interface on that IP address, you've likely changed it to something else and have forgotten the new address.

In such a scenario, don't reset the router to obtain the default IP address. Instead, you can use a computer that's already connected to the router to see which IP address is set as the default gateway. This way you will know the IP address of your DIR-655. You can login the router admin using this router address. Either use the default password or the new password you have set using above steps. The login process is same as it would be if the address was 192.168.0.1 or  http://192.168.0.5
