How to Change Wireless Settings on a D-Link Router?

If you have a D-Link Router, you will sometimes need to change your Internet speed or avoid interference. If you want to increase the speed of the router, you can usually do this through the router's online configuration mode.

Change Wireless Settings on a D-Link Router

Step 1: To change the settings of the D-Link routers, you need to connect the router digitally through your Wi-Fi connection. Using a web browser, navigate to the address of the router or the D-link router IP address.

Generally, you can type "Dlink router" or "http://dlinkrouter" into the address bar of your browser as an address. Similarly, you can also try "http://dlinkrouter.local" or "http://192.168.0.1."

Step 2: A login page will appear on your desktop screen with the required field. Here, if you have set D-Link router login name and password then enter them. By default, you can type the username "Admin" and leave the password blank.

However, it all depends on whether you trust all those who have access to your router, you want to change these settings. If any case, you have lost the password then you should still restore the router to its factory settings and use the default password.

Step 3: As you successfully log in, click on the "Setup" button.  Now, hit on the "Wireless Settings" and then select "Manual Wireless Connection” from Settings. Here, you can adjust the speed of your internet connection depending on your needs.

Step 4: For instance, you can use the "Wireless Channel" drop-down menu which helps you to set the channel to one that might get better reception in your home or office.

Which channel gets the best result depends in part on other networks nearby, but D-Link says channels 1, 6 and 11 often get good connections. You may have to uncheck the "Enable Auto Channel Scan" option to set the channel on your D-link router.

Step 5: When you have done, click on the "Save Settings" button and ensure you can still connect all the devices to your router.

Reset D-Link Router Factory Settings

  • If for some reason your router stops functioning and unplugs it and does not help to get it back, then you can restore it to factory settings.
  • Look for a recessed button labelled "Reset" and press & hold it for around eight to ten seconds using a paperclip or something similar. If you were not using the default, you may need to reconfigure the router's wireless settings.

  • Also, make sure your router device is placed in a well-ventilated area. If you are facing any problems with it and can't properly use its fans to cool itself, it may overheat and stop working.
  • If your internet speed is slow, you can also try moving your devices closer to your router or removing obstructions between the router and devices.
