How To Configure A D-Link DIR-816 Router ?

Step 1(a): Link Your Computer to the Router

Could you turn on the router after unpacking it?

  •  Attach the Act internet cable to the router's WAN/Internet port (the port with a different colour).

  •  Take the LAN cable that is provided with the router. Connect one end to the PC or laptop and the other to any of the router's LAN ports (1–4).

  •  To open the Run dialogue box in the system, hit the key and R keys simultaneously.
  •  At the command prompt (black screen), type ipconfig. The router address will be the LAN or Ethernet adapter's default gateway. Example: 192.168.1.1.

 Step 1(b): Link Your Phone

  •  Turn on the router and attach the ACT internet cable to the router's WAN/Internet port. 
  •  Please navigate to the settings on your mobile device, activate WiFi, and then wait for the device to recognise the router's name before pressing it to connect.

  •  If the router is set up already and you have the WiFi password, navigate to the mobile device's settings.
  •  Select "WiFi" under "Wireless and Networks" and confirm that "WiFi" is enabled.
  •  Await the mobile device detecting the router name. Press the router name, input the WiFi password, and select Connect if requested.
  •  Adjustments to be done following Configuration
  •  To connect to the Internet, we must update the password on every device if the WiFi password is changed.

 Changes to PC

 Windows 7: Press the Windows button. Choose Network & Internet from the Control Panel by clicking. Navigate to the Network and Sharing Centre.

  •  Click Manage Wireless Networks in the Tasks pane (left side of the screen).
  • Right-click the router name, select "Remove network," and then select "OK."
  • Locate the Network icon next to the system time in the lower right corner. - Select the router name. - Enter the new WiFi password. - Hit Connect.

PC Modifications

 Win 8, 8.1: Click the network symbol in the lower right corner next to the system time.

  • Right-click on the router name and select "Forget this network."
  • Re-click the router name, type in the new password, and then choose Connect.

 Win 10: Select the Network icon (located in the lower right corner next to the system time), select Network Settings under WiFi and then select Manage Known Networks. Select the name of your router, choose Forget, and then click the Network icon again. Go to the router's name, change the WiFi password, and click Connect. 

 Smartphone or Tablet

Go to your mobile device's "Settings" activate WiFi, then long-press the name of your router and select "Forget network." Once more, like the router name. The WiFi password must be entered when requested. Connect after entering the password.
